Now
I love the idea of a now page, so I decided to make my own

Double Working
While consulting was plenty fun when it was my only job, it turns out I am struggling a bit with wrapping that up when starting a new job. Clean breaks always recommended! It's still fun doing the part time email reachout every now and then but really wrapping that up to zero, point zero, hours is the goal next month.
On the other hand, I have a for-real new job! I'm excited to say I'm working as the Hardware Engineering Manager at Glacier. It is a massive change for me, some in ways I had imagined, and many in ways I had not! I think many people talk about “just how different” the second job is, and of course, you never really understand it until you do it yourself. What I thought I know was just a small piece. And like any classic Dunning-Kruger learning moment, I've now come to realize that even my new knowledge is just a small piece of a much much bigger pie.
Of course, it's not all new. There's a lot that's comfortably in my wheelhouse
- Startups! Tens of people, tens of hats per person, no stress
- It's a robot: I've never worked on something that moves this much, but I know how to dive across a software-hardware stack
- Managing an engineering team: every team and every person is different, but we still have to Get Stuff Done
Growth
Practice Pal went on pause because man, the last 20% is truly the next 80%. The gap between “fun app for me to use” and “real thing I can ship” is way bigger than I'd like. I need to wrap up some other stuff to jump on this one.
Unresolved has had a super long tail when it comes to finally getting those last tracks out. My gosh I've learned more about the drum kit -> microphone -> Spotify process than I ever expected. Perhaps too much, as unsurprisingly, I lean ship it more than perfect it. Knowing the steps in detail is super helpful though, can't complain.
